Following the festivities of December, January arrives. It brings along a return to work, cold, dark days, and for many, financial stresses. You’re probably familiar with Blue Monday, but have you heard of Brew Monday?

Blue Monday is deemed to be the most depressing day of the year. Whilst born from a travel company’s PR stunt, the notion that January is a tough time for employees carries weight.

In fact, there is a link between reduced daylight causing low moods, depleted energy, and a loss of interest. This is referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is a type of depression. SAD is a very complex condition, learn more about it here.

Work-related stress is common, too, but it’s often amplified during January. The signs of stress are difficult to spot—it’s dubbed the “silent killer” for a reason. Check out our e-learning session that helps you identify stress signals early.

When your employees struggle, so too does your business. What can be done to support your staff and ensure morale doesn’t dip? Well, that’s where Brew Monday comes in.

What is Brew Monday?

Promoted by the Samaritans, Brew Monday is a counter to Blue Monday. It turns a day typically dedicated to being down into an opportunity for positive conversation and to support wellbeing.

Employee wellbeing is essential and contributes to a thriving workplace environment and overall business productivity. You can download our free employee wellbeing policy template here.

Brew Monday’s aim is to tackle loneliness and the mental health issues synonymous with January by encouraging people to connect and chat over a cup of tea or coffee.

Getting involved couldn’t be easier. Here’s what you could do this Brew Monday:
